Marc Marquez and Lorenzo heap praise on Guevara

The two Spaniards – who have 13 titles between them – have both applauded the new Moto3™ World Champion’s achievements

After claiming his sixth victory of the season in classy style, Izan Guevara (Gaviota GASGAS Aspar Team) was crowned Moto3™ World Champion at the Australian Grand Prix. Unsurprisingly, the 18-year-old has received plaudits from plenty – but there’s two that will probably mean more to the Spaniard than most.

Speaking to Spanish publication AS.com, eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was full of praise for his countryman: “These are kids who are going to move up to MotoGP. They are going to make their mistakes, like when Acosta arrived in Moto2, when he crashed. When I came to Moto2, I crashed three times in a row. They will make their mistakes, but they will get there for sure.

“Guevara has won the title like a Champion. He is a kid who goes by instinct. I told him the other day that in Thailand he didn't go by instinct but by thinking. I told him to keep going by instinct. When you have the speed and you are young, you are also not aware of what a World Championship is and he won like a Champion in Australia, on a difficult circuit. He deserves it,” continued the number 93.

“He is the most talented right now in Moto3 and it will show in Moto2, where he will go fast. Last year he was blocked by Acosta. He had a lot of speed even then, but he was lacking in the melee and this year he has gained in that. Acosta has a more aggressive point and Guevara is finer, although not as much as Lorenzo. You will see more of his style in Moto2™, but he is a rider who lets the bike run a lot. They are two different styles and in the end they are both Champions.”

From one multiple MotoGP™ World Champion to another. Jorge Lorenzo – a fellow Mallorcan like Guevara – spoke about the GASGAS Aspar star’s success on DAZN, drawing comparisons to his Australian GP win to something like Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi, Joan Mir, or Luis Salom would do.

“He had a cracking race. He has pulled, he has done a Joan Mir, a Luis Salom like they used to win, pulling to the maximum. That's how the best win. Valentino Rossi won like that in 125cc, Marc Marquez won a title by winning the race, which shows his talent and his determination. Less than 1% of the riders are World Champions and he is already one. He will have time to win in Moto2 and MotoGP. He goes up to Moto2 already very prepared. Izan will get better with bigger bikes.

“He rounds the corners a lot, he is not a great braker. The attitude he has, he always goes alone and tries to do the times by himself and in Moto3 it's very easy to get lost with that. Sometimes it has hurt him. In the long run he will be more prepared than other riders in Moto2,” ended the five-time World Champion.

Guevara has two more Moto3™ races to enjoy before making the step up to Moto2™ to partner Jake Dixon in the GASGAS Aspar Moto2™ team next year.
